FFmpeg Recovery Playback for MPC Home Cinema
Version: 1.0.1.0 Included in: Plus only.
Install through Media Player Codec Pack and select the component during setup. The integrated MPC Home Cinema player provides the recommended starting point. Other DirectShow players depend on their filter selection and output configuration.
Formats and purpose
| Format / use | Playback role |
|---|---|
| Troublesome media | An alternative FFmpeg-based playback path when the normal player graph cannot handle a file reliably. |
| Damaged containers or streams | Recovery depends on the location and extent of damage; intact media data is still required. |
Container parsing, decoder selection and output support are separate parts of playback. See the pack’s complete format matrix for complementary LAV and player support.
An alternative playback path for troublesome media
CW-PlayBridge is a DirectShow component that uses FFmpeg for recovery playback in MPC Home Cinema. It provides another playback path for media that fails or behaves poorly through the usual splitter/decoder combination.
Recovery is dependent on the file. It cannot recreate missing frames or samples, and some damaged or unsupported files will remain unplayable. Successful playback also does not repair the original file on disk.
Using CW-PlayBridge
- Install the Plus edition with MPC Home Cinema and MPC CW-PlayBridge selected.
- Open the troublesome file in the integrated player.
- Inspect the player’s loaded filters to establish whether CW-PlayBridge is being used. Installing or registering a filter alone does not force every player to select it.
Keep the supplied component and its matching runtime DLLs together. The pack installer manages the required runtime files.
CW-PlayBridge and MPC FFmpeg
CW-PlayBridge is a playback filter used with MPC Home Cinema. MPC FFmpeg is a separate player supplied with Plus, offering an FFmpeg-focused playback route for troublesome media. They are related recovery options, not two names for the same application.
Use the appropriate installed player or context-menu entry when trying an alternative path. The separate MPC FFmpeg player’s output and feature set differ from MPC Home Cinema.
FFmpeg is the upstream multimedia framework used by this component. See FFmpeg and the notices distributed with the build for project and licensing information.
Common questions
Does it replace LAV Filters for normal playback?
It provides an alternative recovery path. The normal LAV-based playback path remains useful, and actual selection depends on the player configuration and source.
Will other DirectShow players automatically use it?
Not necessarily. Registration makes a filter available; each player still has its own graph-building and filter-selection behaviour. The pack’s integration targets MPC Home Cinema.
Does it fix a corrupted file permanently?
No. Recovery playback attempts to read and decode usable media data. It does not rewrite or repair the source file.
